Whilst so much emphasis is put on pregnancy massage therapy, there is little consideration given to post birth recovery. Following on from pregnancy and childbirth, your body needs time to heal and rest. The early postnatal period can be a whirlwind and new mums rarely have the chance to even think about their recovery. Looking after a new baby is a full time job, let alone all the other things you need to fit in. Self care often takes a back seat, but it's sooo important.
My treatments combine soothing but effective massage and releases to provide a therapeutic treatment post pregnancy to help you transition through this life altering period. Aiming to minimising pain and discomfort and able to move more freely and feeling wonderfully relaxed.
Many women experience some degree of pain and discomfort for weeks, months or even years after having a baby. The 9 months it takes to grow a baby really does take its toll on your body. Top this with labour and delivery (perhaps the equivalent of running 3 or 4 marathons without any prior training!) it really is not surprising that many women experience aches and pains after having a baby. Postnatal massage can release muscle tension and address poor postural alignment helping you move more easily and freely. A little "me time" and TLC for all mums! And if you had a c-section, take a look to see how ScarWork and scar massage will benefit you.
Unlike exercise, massage can be given as soon as you feel ready, so there's absolutely no need to wait for your 6 week check if your body is desperate for attention. Your are of course very welcome to bring your baby along in the very early days, but you will probably find it more relaxing to leave them with a trusted friend or family member if possible.
You will be asked to complete a thorough online pre-screening questionnaire when you book your appointment to ensure massage is suitable for you (and to save time at your appointment), and also to help me understand your condition and tailor your appointment to your needs. At the start of your appointment you will have the opportunity to expand on the information given in your pre-screen, and we will also discuss postural/lifestyle assessment to determine the areas needing most attention.
For a more complete treatment, book a longer session to include some pelvic floor/core activation education and/or exercise advice (exercise advice suitable from 6+ weeks or 12+ weeks for c-section).
